Update from Saturday 1st October and further update from the previous week. By Matt, Ian and Graham.
On Saturday 1st October we ran our penultimate Diesel Driver Experience course, with Drivers Graham and Matt putting four people through their paces driving the heritage freight train. Due to a charter running, we had a pleasant change to the usual running order and instead went to Norton Fitzwarren rather than doing the usual run to/from Minehead and Bishops Lydeard.
Back on shed work was progressing on D7018 to undertake a brake test. Major progress has been made on the painting side over the last few weeks as well as can be pictured below.
From the previous week Ian writes, Graham has spent the weekend preparing the loco for painting. Provision for the small yellow ends has been made.
D6566 – Will has been painting inside the engine room. The engine instrument panel has been completed and painting of the walls continues. He has also given the auxiliary brake reservoirs a final coat of white prior to fitting. The main/control res bundle has also been given some finishing touches and adjustments so hopefully these can be fitted shortly. Ian assisted Bob C, to flush the fuel system through with kerosene to clear any debris.
D6575 - On Sunday afternoon I took advantage of the dry weather to oil and grease the brake gear, axle boxes, TM bearings etc.
