This book by well-known author John Vaughan is a pictorial study of the six major facilities that were amalgamated into British Rail Engineering Limited in 1970, namely Crewe, Derby, Doncaster, Eastleigh, Glasgow and Swindon works. This BW picture-packed volume covers the wide range of heavy engineering work involved in keeping the 1970s and early 1980s fleets of locos and rolling stock in good condition – it is a very interesting read.
